28.3 | Why is Faith the Cognitive Mode Most Proximal to Truth?
In the preceding structural analysis, we have repeatedly emphasized a fundamental constraint: The 2nd and 4th Dimensions cannot "cognize" the 1st Dimension. The 2nd Dimension can only manifest the 1st; the 4th can only explain the 2nd; but neither can truly touch the 1st.
Here, a prerequisite must be clarified: the word "Cognition" itself denotes a mode of knowing centered upon the Subject. To cognize implies that the subject stands outside the object to judge, categorize, delimit, and explain it. This structure is inherently linguistic, logical, and spatiotemporal—it is the operational mode of 4th-Dimensional Reason.
But the 1st Dimension is not an Object.
Consequently, the 1st Dimension cannot be "cognized." It can only be sustained (承接).
That is to say, when we speak of "approaching Truth," what occurs is not the subject's grasp of Truth, but the Abdication of the Subject. This is the defining characteristic of Faith—not cognition, but sustainment; not explanation, but entry; not possession, but surrender.
Structurally, the 2nd and 4th dimensions remain levels of manifestation and explanation. Yet within 3rd-Dimensional Reason, beyond mere linguistic logic, there exists a structural potentiality homologous to Absolute Truth. As previously noted, "Reason" here is not a term of classical theology, but a Structural Cognitive Potential—an innate capacity capable of resonance with the Source.
Faith becomes the cognitive mode most proximal to Truth precisely because it does not operate through linguistic mediation or logical deduction, but through the Renunciation of the Meditative Structures of language and logic, thereby allowing the subject to abdicate.
First, the significance of Faith lies in its description of a mode of entry into Presence, rather than a new system of knowledge. Faith does not add explanation; it removes mediation. Only when language and logic retreat, and the subject ceases the attempt to dominate, can consciousness directly sustain Truth.
Second, Faith facilitates our departure from the stage of Pure Rationality. We spend most of our existence within 4th-Dimensional linguistic reason—explaining, judging, inducing, and comparing. Faith, however, demands the Surrender of the Self. Faith does not fortify the subject; it dissolves it. The dissolution of the Ego is the vital key to activating the internal spiritual structure. When the self dissolves, the innate cognitive potential homologous to Truth is ignited.
Third, the structure of Faith itself is characterized by the transcendence of Language, Spacetime, and the Ego. Genuine faith experience is not a logical argument; it is more akin to the state of immersion found in Art, Aesthetics, Nature, and Music. In these states, the linguistic frame is loosened, the sense of time is attenuated, and self-consciousness is weakened. The subject no longer presides; Being begins to manifest.
In summary:
- Faith is the manner of removing mediation and entering Presence, thereby enabling the direct sustainment of Truth.
- Faith assists us in departing from linguistic reason and dissolving the ego, thereby activating the internal potentiality homologous to Truth.
- Faith liberates us from the shackles of language, spacetime, and the ego-structure, allowing consciousness to enter a non-linguistic, non-subjective, and non-temporal state.
It is precisely within this abdication that Truth may be sustained. Therefore, Faith is the mode most proximal to Truth not because it provides more complete knowledge, but because it abandons the posture of knowing.
Truth cannot be known; it can only be sustained. And Faith is the structural manner through which we consistently enter this state of sustainment.
