09 | Science and Analogy: The Finite Means of Approaching the "Logos"

(The Eternal "Way" Beyond All Human Language)

Throughout the preceding eight theses, we have drawn heavily upon the vocabularies of modern thought:

  • Physics (Quantum Collapse, Entropy, Singularity)
  • Philosophy (Ontology, Forms, Boundaries)
  • Psychology (Ego-Structure, Consciousness)

We must now soberly address a fundamental question: To what extent do these scientific and philosophical dialects truly touch the Divine Intent? Can they ever stand as the Truth itself?

The answer is categorical: Science and philosophy may assist us in approaching the Logos, but they can never be equated with the Logos.

I. Science is a Mode of Understanding the "Logos," Not the "Logos" Itself

Scripture declares: "Through Him all things were made" (John 1:3). This implies that:

  • The very architecture of the universe originates from the Logos.
  • Natural laws are the stable manifestations of the Logos on a physical plane.
  • Mathematical and physical formulae are merely abstract expressions of this underlying structure.

From this vantage point, Science is not a system in opposition to Faith; rather, it is the process by which finite human reason brushes against the "outer hem of the robe of the Logos." By its very nature, Science is falsifiable, subject to revision, and dependent upon models and observations. It is always approaching, yet it can never be closed as a "final answer."

Thus, Science is a partial and precious way of understanding the Logos, but the Logos Himself infinitely transcends everything Science can encapsulate.

II. The Finitude of Reason and Language: All "Knowledge of God" is Analogical

St. Paul writes: "For now we see through a glass, darkly" (1 Cor 13:12). This is not merely a gesture of metaphysical humility, but an epistemological fact:

  • Reason operates within the confines of existing concepts and empirical models.
  • Concepts, by necessity, abstract, simplify, and slice reality into manageable pieces.
  • Language inevitably loses the sheer depth and richness of experience.

Therefore, any statement concerning God is, of necessity, a "metaphor, an analogy, or a shadow." The Revelation is true, yet the human language that carries it is finite. This does not negate the authority of Scripture; it acknowledges that Scripture is the result of God speaking in a language that Man can grasp.

III. The Usage of Science and Philosophy as "Bridges of Metaphor"

In this work, we have utilized:

  • Quantum Collapse to speak of the Fall.
  • Entropy to explain Death.
  • The Singularity to understand "Let there be light."
  • Ego Theory to illuminate the Tree of Knowledge.
  • Hegelian Boundaries to explain disintegration and transcendence.

These are not attempts to "prove God through science" or "define God through philosophy." They are the building of a "Bridge of Understanding." In the Master’s own time, the farmer, the seed, the vine, and the bread were the structures of the world most familiar to His listeners; thus, He used them to speak of the Kingdom. Today, Quantum Physics, Cosmology, and Information Theory form the structures of our modern world. We use them to explain the Logos for the same reason: they are our best contemporary metaphors. But they remain metaphors, not the Essence.

IV. Science Shifts and Language Evolves, but the "Logos" is Immutable

The history of human knowledge is a history of constant revision:

  • Classical Mechanics → Relativity → Quantum Fields.
  • Ancient Cosmologies → The Big Bang → Multiverse Models.
  • Early Psychoanalysis → Cognitive Science → Consciousness Studies.

The language we use to explain the world is refreshed time and again. This means that the scientific analogies we use today to illustrate the Divine will eventually require correction or be replaced by superior metaphors. Yet, this does not alter the core reality: if the foundation of the universe is the Logos, and if all things are from Him, through Him, and to Him, then the evolution of human explanation is merely a process of drawing closer to a Truth we can never fully exhaust.

Summary | Original Doctrine 09

  1. Science is a means for finite reason to approach the Logos, but it is never the Logos itself.
  2. Reason and language are finite; thus, all expressions concerning God are analogical—refractions of Truth within a limited vessel.
  3. Every scientific, philosophical, and psychological concept used in this work serves as a "Bridge of Understanding," not a final definition of the Divine Essence.
  4. Human language evolves, but the Logos is constant. We are corrected in our understanding; the Reality of God is not.

Conclusion: Faith does not remain stagnant in old language; rather, it holds fast to the unchanging Logos while constantly renewing the language used to describe Him.
