17 | The Generative Law of Suffering
Suffering does not enter human life from the outside; it is a structure generated from within. Human "misery" is not a product of environment, but the automated mode of operation for a soul that has "departed from God." When man disconnects from the Divine Source of Life, suffering begins to ferment, replicate, and expand within the heart—like leavening dough, growing until it eventually overwhelms the entire existence.
This thesis unfolds across four layers:
I. Suffering Begins with Separation: The Self as a False Center
When man leaves God, the Ego is forced to assume the role of "Master of Life." However, the Ego is not the center of life; yet it is compelled to play the part, creating immense internal pressure. The starting point is simply this: Suffering = Separation from the Source of Life. This is not a punishment, but a structural necessity. Just as a branch withers when severed from the vine, man, away from God, naturally enters a state of emptiness, tension, loneliness, insecurity, and the echoing resonance of self-fear. This is the root of suffering.
II. The First Mechanism: The Expansion of Self for Security
Once the Ego departs from God, a fundamental problem arises: it possesses no power, yet it must carry the weight of all existence. Consequently, it chooses to expand through:
- Control and comparison.
- Proving and pursuing.
- Manipulating the evaluations of others.
- Continually piling up achievements.
- Attempting to become some "grander" version of itself.
The expansion of the Ego is never satisfied because it is attempting to occupy the "place intended for God" within the heart. Thus, suffering continually grows. This is the Kinetic Energy of Suffering: The Expansion of the Ego.
III. The Second Mechanism: Distorted Desires and Rising Thresholds
Away from God, man no longer knows the source of true happiness; thus, the body begins to dominate the judgment of joy, and Desire becomes the "False Center" of the soul. The threshold for pleasure continually rises, and stimulation escalates, while the sense of satisfaction steadily declines. This forms the second power chain of misery: The Kinetic Energy of Suffering = Rising Thresholds of Desire + Declining Satisfaction. This is a "Downward Spiral" that moves with increasing speed. St. Paul called this: "The mind governed by the flesh is death" (Romans 8:6).
IV. The Third Mechanism: Fear as the Driving Force of Life
When the Ego becomes the center of life, Fear inevitably becomes the fuel for existence:
- Fear of loss and failure.
- Fear of being negated or deemed "not good enough."
- Fear of being unloved.
- Fear of death.
This is an invisible "Engine of the Soul," driving man to flee from pain, only to run deeper into its depths. Fear is not merely an emotion; it is the default mode of a life operating independently of God. So long as man relies upon himself, he must live in fear.
V. The Ultimate Mechanism: The Ego Recirculating Within Itself
Suffering remains unsolvable because the Ego attempts to use "the Self" to resolve "problems created by the Self." This creates a closed loop: Suffering → Fleeing via Ego → Generating more suffering → Fleeing again via Ego → Further suffering. This is what Jesus meant by: "The blind leading the blind" (Matthew 15:14). The ultimate truth of human misery is that suffering is a machine of the Ego; it manufactures itself automatically. Without Divine intervention, man cannot leap out of this cycle.
Summary | Original Doctrine 17
- Suffering does not enter life from the outside; it is generated internally from the "departure from God."
- The root of suffering is the Ego replacing God as the false center of life.
- The kinetic structure of suffering is: Ego Expansion → Distorted Desire → Fear-Driven Existence → Ego Recirculation.
- Man cannot escape suffering through his own effort, for the Ego’s method of resolving pain is the very thing that manufactures new pain.
- Only by returning to God and allowing Him to occupy the center can the "Machine of Suffering" be stilled.
Conclusion: Suffering is not Fate; it is Structure. It is not given by God, but is the automated byproduct of man's departure from Him. Only when God becomes the Center again does the machine stop, allowing man to walk toward true Rest.
