54|Overloved: The Fundamental State of Grace
Scripture says: “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19). God’s love is not a reward for our performance; it is a love that precedes us, transcends us, and does not depend on us. When a person truly awakens to this love, they find themselves entering a unique spiritual state: Overloved.
"Overloved" is not just an emotional term, but a spiritual experience: “I have done nothing, yet I am loved far beyond what I deserve.” It is a synthesis of humility, gratitude, peace, and happiness—a hallmark of a mature Christian life.
(1) The Root of Overloved: Not My Worth, but God’s Prior Love
The core truth of being Overloved is: “I am not qualified, yet I am deeply loved.” We did not pay a price in advance, yet we have already received:
- A functional body;
- The life and care provided by parents;
- The reliance and response of children;
- The unconditional companionship of family;
- The chance to continue living in this world;
- Countless shielded dangers and averted disasters;
- Air, sunlight, water, time, and life itself.
99% of this was not earned through our effort, nor was it "deserved"; it is pure Grace. Thus, the consciousness of being Overloved naturally emerges: “I have done nothing, yet I already possess so much.” This is the root of Christian humility and gratitude.
(2) Overloved as the Natural Posture of Humility and Gratitude
When one realizes they are Overloved, at least three spiritual fruits will naturally grow:
- Humility: Knowing everything is a gift, one has no right to pride, only to humility.
- Gratitude: Knowing that nothing possessed is "taken for granted."
- Joy and Serenity: Living no longer from a mindset of scarcity, but from the certainty of "I am already deeply loved." This is close to what Paul said: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” (Philippians 4:11).
(3) Discovering Overloved: Shifting from "Unattained" to "Already Received"
Most human suffering comes from the thought: “I still lack this; why don’t I have that?” The foundation of Overloved is the opposite: “What I already possess is far more than I deserve.” As soon as one shifts their gaze from what they have not obtained to the Grace already received, they discover they have been living in the state of being Overloved all along. This includes:
- Moments of narrow escape from death;
- Experiences of being forgiven and re-accepted;
- Opportunities and resources that appeared;
- Sudden protection;
- Even simply—the fact that I am alive today. All of these are manifestations of a vast Love.
(4) Overloved as the Entrance to the Kingdom Mindset
Jesus said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3). To be "poor in spirit" is to know one is undeserving, yet still loved. This is precisely the consciousness of being Overloved. When one lives in this awareness, they naturally enter the mindset of the Kingdom because they:
- No longer seek to compete;
- No longer habituate to complaining;
- No longer obsess over comparison;
- Are no longer so proud;
- No longer act from a sense of scarcity. Being Overloved allows one to naturally live out gentleness, gratitude, peace, and joy—the very fruit of the Spirit.
