77|What True Success Is: Purity of Soul
Jesus never defined "success" as wealth, status, power, or influence. He repeatedly reminded us: “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Matthew 16:26). Everything we chase in this world constitutes no "true value" in eternity. The only thing that determines the quality of life and one’s position in the Kingdom is the purity of the soul and the obedience of the heart.
(1) Righteous Deeds Cannot Save Us: Because We Do Not Know What True "Righteousness" Is
There are three layers of profound meaning here:
- We do not know what "Righteousness" is. Man, according to his finite rationality, believes he is acting righteously, but in God’s eyes, righteousness comes from a pure heart, not external actions.
- Once a clear standard is known, man tends to "perform righteousness." This was the core of Jesus’ critique of the Pharisees: their righteousness was done to be seen by others; it was a righteousness contaminated by the Ego.
- Even if we knew "Righteousness," we lack the ability to achieve it on our own. The finite self cannot transcend itself by its own power; salvation comes from Grace, not self-effort. Therefore, what God values is not "how many good deeds you have done," but: How deeply you have repented; to what extent your Ego has shrunk; whether you have opened the door for the Holy Spirit; and whether you let God do the work rather than insisting on doing it yourself.
(2) Since Righteous Deeds Cannot Save Us, How Do We Prepare to Enter the Kingdom?
The answer is not to "work harder," but to make the Ego smaller so that the Holy Spirit can enter more fully. God truly judges:
- The degree of the Ego’s shrinking: The smaller the Ego, the greater the Grace.
- Whether the door of the heart is open: The Holy Spirit will not force entry; He enters only when we are willing.
- Whether there is true obedience: It is not about how much we do, but about how much we let God do. That is why Jesus said: “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” The road to entering the Kingdom is not about frantic self-salvation, but about learning to let go.
(3) True Success: Purity of Soul, Not a Secular Resumé
In the Kingdom’s units of measurement, "success" has only two indicators:
- Purity of Soul (Pure Heart)
- The proportion of Joy and Peace in one's life (Shalom) Wealth, status, achievement, and influence are merely tools; they are not the end. True success is: regardless of circumstances, you still possess peace, joy, mercy, and gratitude. This is the "Successology" of the Kingdom.
(4) Surrender is the Only Path to Attaining "Both Kinds of Success" Simultaneously
When a person truly surrenders to God, they attain both at once:
- Earthly Success—because faith creates reality. Jesus said: “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Faith is a deep creative force that allows one to move toward their calling with internal consistency.
- Spiritual Success—because obedience leads one into the structure of the Kingdom. God values obedience, not results. Obedience returns one to the track of Grace, no longer relying solely on oneself.
- Joy and Peace—the ultimate form of success. True success is not "owning more," but "worrying less"; not "becoming important," but "becoming free."
Summary|Original Doctrine 77
- Righteous deeds themselves cannot save a person, because we neither understand righteousness nor can we produce perfect righteousness.
- God looks at repentance, humility, and obedience, not surface performance.
- True success is the purity of the soul and a life of internal joy and peace.
- Surrender is the only path to simultaneously attain earthly blessing and a position in the Kingdom.
- The smaller the Ego, the greater the Grace; the deeper the faith, the more the abundance.
In one sentence: True success is not achieved through ability but manifested through surrender; it is not entered by oneself but fulfilled by God.
