Chapter 6 | Can the Subconscious Be Changed? — Why Self-Hypnosis Almost Always Fails
We have spent several chapters establishing that success is predestined, and that destiny is the subconscious. For many who long to change their fate through the study of successology, this conclusion might seem somewhat pessimistic.
But please believe me: I am a believer in successology.
I could even say I was once a heavy successology "fanatic." I read nearly every successology book available, attended numerous courses, and my first entrepreneurial attempt was born from the hope of becoming the Greater China agent for a renowned American personal growth program. In my subsequent life practice, successology has indeed brought me much positive feedback.
It is precisely because I believe so firmly in successology that I am driven to solve one problem: Why is successology not like a science? Why does it not work for everyone? Why does the same method prove effective for some and entirely ineffective for others?
To achieve true positivity, we must first face true reality. Only by acknowledging that "everyone can succeed" is a fallacy in practice—and by further analyzing why it fails—can we find the obstacles. Only then is it possible to truly help those whose "seeds are misaligned."
Those with inherently "good seeds" find success easily with almost any successology technique because their seed is already consistent and aligned with the method. Much like a truly exceptional student, they will produce great results under almost any teacher who isn't utterly incompetent.
The focus of this chapter is: If the subconscious is the core factor of destiny, then—can the subconscious be changed? And if so, how?
6.1 The Conclusion: The Subconscious Cannot Be Directly Changed by the "Self"
Let us start with the conclusion:
The subconscious is not impossible to change, but it is nearly impossible to change directly—especially by ourselves.
This statement may appear despairing, but it is actually the starting point of hope. Only when you admit the "difficulty" will you stop torturing yourself with ineffective methods and begin to seek a truly effective path.
